Ivory Coast’s U20 team, the Young Elephants secured a 2-0 win over Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in their second friendly match played at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny on Friday evening.
In a reversal of fortunes, the Flying Eagles had won the first friendly game 2-0 on Wednesday, courtesy of goals from Daniel Bameyi and Divine Oliseh. However, the Young Elephants were determined to avoid back-to-back losses on home soil.
The Young Elephants took the lead in the 17th minute and added a second goal shortly after halftime. Despite creating scoring opportunities, the Flying Eagles were unable to find the back of the net on this occasion, ultimately losing 2-0.
Although the loss may indicate that the Flying Eagles require more preparation to win the U20 AFCON trophy in May, the team can hold their heads high after impressive performances in the two friendly matches in Ivory Coast.

The Flying Eagles will now return to Nigeria to continue their preparations for the U20 AFCON tournament, scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18. The team will be joined by foreign-based players before the final squad is selected.
Prior to the two-game friendly tour, the Flying Eagles were grouped with Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco for the tournament, while hosts Côte d’Ivoire were placed alongside DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and another team from the UNIFFAC region in Group A.
