Nigeria’s Flying Eagles secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Côte d’Ivoire’s Young Elephants in a friendly match played at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny in Ivory Coast on Wednesday evening.

The Flying Eagles took the lead through Captain Daniel Bameyi’s penalty kick, and Divine Oliseh sealed the win with the second goal, handing the Ivory Coast U20 side a defeat at home.

The friendly matches are part of the Flying Eagles’ preparations for the upcoming U20 AFCON, where they will face Egypt, South Africa, and Morocco in the group stage while hosts Côte d’Ivoire will compete in Group A against DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and another representative from the UNIFFAC region.

The confidence-boosting win will undoubtedly propel the Flying Eagles as they intensify their preparations for the continental tournament, aiming to clinch the trophy for the eighth time.

The two teams will face off again at the same venue on Friday, and a second victory for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will significantly lift their spirits as they prepare to make history.

With the U20 AFCON tournament scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18, other African teams will be closely watching the Nigerian side as one of the top favorites, in order to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
