West Ham United are making a determined effort to secure the services of Nigeria striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest.
According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, the London-based side are looking at bringing the Nigerian in the winter transfer window.
“West Ham are now making a serious attempt to sign Taiwo Awoniyi with immediate effect,” Plettenberg posted on X. “Talks have started! The 27-year-old striker is currently under contract with Forest until 2027.”
Awoniyi has had limited opportunities for Nottingham Forest this season and West Ham appear keen to add the forward to their ranks as they seek to strengthen their attacking options.
Bold Sports had earlier reported that Forest who are third on the Premier League table and are fighting for an European spot, reportedly aim to retain Awoniyi’s services until the summer despite his lack of game time.
On the other hand, West Ham’s urgency to sign a striker has intensified due to a double injury blow, with Michael Antonio ruled out until next season with a leg injury sustained from a car accident, and Nikolas Fullkrug facing a potentially lengthy absence with a hamstring issue.
Awoniyi netted his first goal of the season January 6 as Forest defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 at the Molineux Stadium.
