Valencia Sporting Director Miguel Ángel ‘Corona’ has expressed confidence in Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq’s ability to thrive at the club, emphasizing that Sadiq’s playing style aligns perfectly with Valencia’s needs.
The club is currently in a precarious position, sitting 19th on the La Liga table after a string of poor performances. This dismal run of form led to the dismissal of former manager Rubén Baraja and the appointment of Carlos Corberán from West Brom, in a bid to turn the season around.
Valencia’s struggles are evident in their record: 18 matches played, 10 losses, six draws, and only two wins. They have scored a mere 17 goals while conceding 28, highlighting a dire need for offensive reinforcements. The arrival of Sadiq is seen as a key step toward addressing these issues.
Sadiq joined Valencia on a loan deal until the end of the season, completing his medical on Friday. During his unveiling, he shared his ambitions for the move, which include improving Valencia’s league position and gaining more playing time.
“All players need continuity, and I haven’t had that at Real. Coaches make their decisions, and I respect that, but I need to keep moving forward. I hope to give my best here and wish Real the best as well. As a striker, my focus is to score goals and achieve the best possible results,” Sadiq told reporters on Saturday.
Corona expressed optimism about the Nigerian forward’s potential impact on Valencia’s attack.
“We are confident that Sadiq will greatly contribute to our attacking options. He complements the players in our squad and has proven his ability to play effectively both upfront and as a lone striker. We trust he will help us, and we’re thrilled to have him,” Corona remarked during the unveiling.
He also praised Sadiq’s dedication, noting, “Today, despite it being an unscheduled training day, he came in to train. This, along with your enthusiasm during our conversations over the past weeks, shows his commitment to joining our project and wearing the Valencia CF shirt. We wish him the best of luck, and he is fully at the coach’s disposal.”
Addressing future squad improvements, Corona revealed that strengthening the team remains a priority. “Although signing a striker like Sadiq has been a significant objective, we are also exploring the market for a right-back to further reinforce the squad,” he concluded.
