The Super Eagles have been cleared from Al Abaq Airport in Libya after hours of being stranded, according to reports by Benghazi-based The Libya Observer.

The team’s troubles are not yet over as they now face another challenge: a lack of available transport to Benghazi ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

According to The Libya Observer, “After hours of waiting, Nigeria’s football team ended Libya’s entry procedures at Labraq Airport, but they are now facing another technical problem as they have to wait for the buses to transport them to Benghazi because there are none now at the airport.”

Bold Sports had earlier reported that the team’s chartered flight which was initially scheduled to land in Benghazi, just minutes from Benina, where the game is set to be played was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abaq, about 240km from Benghazi, leaving the team stranded for over three hours without any buses arranged by the Libyan Football Association to take them to their destination.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had prearranged transport in Benghazi, but the diversion to Al Abaq caused a logistical breakdown. Efforts by the NFF to arrange alternate transportation have been complicated, and airport officials reportedly refused to open the gates for hours, further delaying the team’s departure.

According to reports, the Libyan official claim the team’s passports weren’t able to be checked due to malfunction in the system at the Al Abaq Airport.

The Super Eagles are set to face Libya on Tuesday, but with Al Abaq Airport located nearly three hours away from Benina, the team still faces significant challenges as they prepare for the crucial match.

The Eagles defeated Libya 1-0 in the first leg of their AFCON qualifier, played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
