Remo Stars widened the gap at the top with a thrilling 2-1 triumph over Kano Pillars at their home ground in Ikenne on Saturday, further distancing themselves from second-placed Shooting Stars in the race for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title.

Remo Stars rode a wave of momentum into the match, boasting a seven-game unbeaten run that had propelled them to a commanding lead in the title chase. In stark contrast, Kano Pillars were under pressure to halt a slump, having suffered two consecutive setbacks.

The home team burst out of the gates, dictating the pace and fashioning scoring opportunities that ultimately paid off in the 5th minute, as Alimi Sikiru netted the opener to hand Remo Stars an early advantage.

Kano Pillars briefly thought they’d drawn level, only to have their would-be equalizer chalked off for offside. The reprieve was short-lived, as Remo Stars swiftly capitalized on the momentum, with Ibrahim Abubakar pouncing on a rebound to double his team’s lead.
