Super Eagles fullback Bruno Onyemaechi made his first start for Olympiacos as the Greek powerhouse secured an emphatic 6-0 victory over AEK Athens in the first leg of their Greek Cup semifinal clash on Wednesday.
Since joining Olympiacos from Boavista in January, Onyemaechi had only made one appearance, coming off the bench in a 4-0 win against Panserraikos. However, head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar gave him his first start in the crucial semifinal contest against AEK Athens.
While Olympiacos took an early lead in the 9th minute through Harold Moukoudi’s own goal, Onyemaechi had a nervous start, receiving a yellow card just 13 minutes into the game.

As the game progressed, the 25-year-old adjusted to the pace of the match as Olympiacos continued to dominate AEK Athens, scoring two more goals in the 19th and 22nd minutes through Andre Horta and Roman Yaremchuk’s strikes respectively.
The second half saw Olympiacos maintain their momentum, scoring two quick goals to assert their dominance. Luis Palma and Roman Yaremchuk’s second goal of the game increased the scoreline to 5-0 and with victory all but secured, experienced striker Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the win, scoring in the 78th minute to make it 6-0.
The convincing victory gives Olympiacos a significant advantage ahead of the second leg of the semifinal clash scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, as they bid to win the Greek Cup for the first time since 2020.
