Nigerian attacker, David Okereke scored his fourth league goal for Gaziantep as the away side got a late goal to secure a 2-2 draw against Kasimpaşa at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadyumu, Istanbul, on Sunday.

Kasimpaşa came into the fixture full of confidence as they were on a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Gaziantep had also won their last two matches and they had only lost one game in the last five.

The first half was a flurry of goals as Nuno Da Costa opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game to give the hosts the lead before David Okereke equalized three minutes later to level the scoreline.

After an end-to-end first 10 minutes, the game settled and the home side began to dominate proceedings. They were rewarded few minutes before half time as Nuno Da Costa scored his second goal of the game to regain the lead for Kasimpasa.

Despite going behind, the away side failed to give up as they limited Kasimpaşa’s ability to create chances like they did in the first half, while also trying to influence the game going forward as they sought for an equalizer. Eventually, Gaziantep got a late goal to level the scoreline once again courtesy of Halil Dervisoglu’s strike in the 83rd minute.

Gaziantep thought they had won the game in added time after Christopher Lugonyi’s strike went into the back of the net. However, the goal was ruled out following a VAR check.

With the draw, Gaziantep are now 8th on the table with 22 points in 17 games. Next up, they host Istanbulspor in the Turkish Cup before facing off against Demirspor in their next league match.

Due to Okereke’s impressive form, Gaziantep may activate the buy option clause included in his loan deal. His contract with Cremonese runs until June 2026 and the Italian club may look to cash in on him while his value and stock is on the rise.
