Nigeria forward Anthony Nwakaeme is set to miss Trabzonspor’s upcoming Turkish Super Lig clash against Besiktas on Saturday due to a muscle injury.
The news was confirmed by Trabzonspor’s Club Health Board President, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Beşir, who ruled out the one-cap Super Eagles forward from this weekend’s crucial encounter.
“Our player Anthony Nwakaeme, who experienced discomfort following the match against Eyüpspor in the 23rd week of the Trendyol Super League Şamil Ekinci Season, has been diagnosed with a lower back muscle injury in his right leg after examination and MRI scans,” Beşir stated. “His treatment has already commenced under the supervision of our medical team.”

The timeline for Nwakaeme’s recovery remains uncertain. The 35-year-old rejoined Trabzonspor last summer after a two-season spell in Saudi Arabia and has since reestablished himself as a key player for the team.
Despite his return being hampered by injuries—including calf, muscle, groin, and fitness-related setbacks, causing him to miss seven games—he has made a significant impact in recent weeks. Over the last eight matches, Nwakaeme has contributed one goal and two assists.
His presence has been instrumental in Trabzonspor’s recent resurgence, helping the team secure four wins, two draws, and two losses in their last eight outings.
