Super Eagles goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named one of the top three finalists for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award. She will compete against Morocco’s Sanaa Mssoudy and Zambia’s Barbara Banda for the prestigious title.
However, sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga from Malawi, who made it to the final five-woman shortlist, did not make the cut as the list was narrowed down to three.
All three finalists have delivered outstanding performances for their countries and clubs throughout the year.
Nnadozie played a crucial role in Nigeria’s qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics and has been a key player for Paris FC, currently third in the league after 10 games. With Nnadozie in goal, Paris FC has lost just once in their last 10 league matches, keeping four clean sheets and maintaining a seven-game unbeaten streak.
Sanaa Mssoudy was pivotal for AS FAR, helping the team reach the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League, where they ultimately lost to TP Mazembe.
Barbara Banda has been a standout performer in 2024, leading the United States-based Orlando Pride to a championship title. Banda contributed 17 goals and seven assists in 25 matches, solidifying her reputation as one of Africa’s top football exports.
The winner will be announced on December 16th at a grand ceremony in Morocco. Nnadozie is also up for the CAF Goalkeeper of The Year award (women).
