The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has submitted its report to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee ahead of the October 20 deadline, detailing the ordeal faced by the Super Eagles in Libya.
In a chat with Weekend Trust an official of the NFF confirmed that all necessary documentation had been submitted.
“We have already submitted all the relevant documents for the attention of the disciplinary committee,” the official said.
“Even before we returned to Nigeria, we were ready with everything needed to prosecute our case against Libya. So, we have done what is expected of us.”
Pressed for more details on the NFF’s plea to CAF, the official declined to elaborate. “No need to go into details, let’s wait and see the outcome,” he told Weekend Trust.
Bold Sports had earlier reported that Nigeria refused to play the match after their delegation was diverted to Al Abraq Airport instead of Benghazi and detained for nearly 20 hours without food or water.
CAF had earlier given both the NFF and the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) until October 20 to submit their reports after the controversial cancellation of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group D qualifier on October 15.
This directive from CAF followed a formal protest lodged by the NFF, who had condemned the treatment of the Nigerian team in Libya.
The Nigerian government, concerned for the safety of its players and officials, ordered the withdrawal of the Super Eagles from the match. CAF responded by calling the situation unacceptable and requested detailed explanations from both federations.
Both the NFF and LFF now await CAF’s verdict on the matter, following the submission of their reports.
