Ahmed Musa was the difference once again as Kano Pillars secured a late 2-1 victory over Niger Tornadoes in an enthralling encounter played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on Saturday.

Niger Tornadoes came into the fixture with confidence as they got 4 points from Pillars last season. They also just came from a big win where they blazed past Sunshine stars 4-1 in their biggest win of the season so far. Meanwhile, Kano Pillars lost to Shooting Stars in their previous match where they missed both Rabiu Ali and Ahmed Musa, their two highest goalscorers.

However, Ahmed Musa was back fit and he captained the side from the start of the game as they sought to bounce back to winning ways in front of their home fans.

Rashid Alhassan opened the scoring in the half hour as he converted Naziru Salisu’s assist from a well-delivered freekick to give the hosts the lead. However, the lead did not last for too long as Mohammed Aliyu equalized for Tornadoes just on the hour mark.

With the game heading for a stalemate, Ahmed Musa delivered once again for Kano Pillars as his late strike secured all three points for Sai Musa Gida. Alongside Rabiu Ali who was selected in the 18-man squad for the CHAN qualifiers, Musa is proving to be the difference maker for Pillars this season with six goals and two assists so far.

With the win, Kano Pillars are now seventh on the table with 25 points in 17 games. Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes are one place below them with 24 points in 18 matches.

Kano Pillars will visit El-Kanemi Warriors in their next fixture as they aim to record another huge victory while Tornadoes will host defending champions, Enugu Rangers at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.
