Following a thrilling tournament, Rivers Hoopers will face off against Aspac Cotonou in the highly anticipated final of the Louis Edem Invitational Basketball Championship, scheduled to take place this Saturday.

The fourth edition of the prestigious Louis Edem Invitational Basketball Tournament, which tipped off on January 26 at the indoor sports hall of the Lagos National Stadium, is set to reach its climax, marking the end of the exciting competition.

Rivers Hoopers have been unstoppable since the tournament’s commencement, steamrolling opponents in their path with impressive performances.

In their opening match, the Nigerian champions asserted their dominance, defeating defending champions Hoops and Read by a convincing 72-54 margin, followed by a 70-48 thrashing of Comets.

Their winning streak continued as they edged Police Batons 70-62 to secure a semifinal berth, and then narrowly defeated Energie 64-59 in their final group game.

The semifinals proved to be a thrilling encounter, with Rivers Hoopers seeking revenge against Spintex Knights, who had eliminated them at the same stage in the previous edition. Despite trailing 38-34 at halftime, Rivers Hoopers staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the Ghanaian side 71-66, setting the stage for a final showdown against Aspac.

Aspac have mirrored Rivers Hoopers’ dominance throughout the tournament, with an impressive unbeaten run that includes victories over Spintex Knights, Raptors, Elan Coton, and Lagos Legends in the group stage. They then delivered a resounding 70-33 thrashing of Police Batons in the semifinals to book their spot in the final.

In addition to the men’s final, the women’s teams will also take center stage as two powerhouses, Dolphins Nigeria and Calabar Angels, face off for the ultimate prize.

Before the finals take place, the teams that fell short in the semifinals will compete in third-place matches, with Energie Cotonou facing Elan Coton in the women’s category and Police Baton seeking for parity against Spintex Knights in the men’s category.
