Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has claimed Barnsley’s December Goal of the Month award, thanks to his stunning outside-the-box effort in a thrilling comeback win against Exeter.
The incredible strike marked a significant milestone for Nwakali as it was his first goal for Barnsley since joining the club in August 2024 on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Since making the switch from Chaves to Barnsley, Kelechi Nwakali has found consistent playing time elusive, managing just three League One starts, although he has also seen some action in the EFL Trophy and FA Cup.
The goal provided a much-needed boost for Kelechi Nwakali, easing some of the pressure he faced and paving the way for a starting spot in the next match against Leyton Orient.

Following the presentation of the award, Kelechi Nwakali expressed his gratitude on his social media platforms, thanking everyone who voted him to win: “Thankful to God and thanks to everyone who voted me to win the goal of the month. More good things to come,” he said.
After starting in the 3-0 win over Crawley, Kelechi Nwakali will be looking to build on his momentum and the confidence boost from winning the Goal of the Month award, aiming to cement a regular starting spot at Barnsley.
