Ikorodu City FC on Wednesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos exacted sweet revenge over Kano Pillars with a comfortable 4-1 win in their matchday 21 Nigeria Premier Football League fixture.

The Oga Boys took an early lead in the third minute through Shola Adelani, who headed the hosts in front with a close-range effort. They carried on with the momentum and were rewarded with a second goal in the 20th minute after Harrison Austin’s well-taken effort from outside the box.

Pillars pulled one back before halftime in the 44th minute when Abba Adam directed the ball into the net with an excellent header. The goal only proved to be a consolation, as they were no match for the hosts in the second half.

Ikorodu came back stronger after the halftime break and were rewarded with a third goal in the 54th minute when veteran Rabiu Ali turned the ball into his own net from Harrison Austin’s corner kick.

Super-sub Ayomide Cole extended Ikorodu City’s lead in the 73rd minute, three minutes after coming on. The goal was assisted by Salau Yusuf, his third of the game.

Pillars had given Ikorodu a brutal welcome to the NPFL, demolishing the newcomers 3-0 in their first game of the season. With the Lagos team currently in the form of their lives, they will be looking to serve teams who handed them defeats a piece of the pie when they meet in the second stanza.

The win sees Ikorodu City move to fifth place in the league, leapfrogging defending champions Enugu Rangers, who suffered a 2-1 loss to El Kanemi Warriors earlier in the day.
