Former Super Eagles striker and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champion, Brown Ideye has been officially unveiled as a new signing for Enyimba in a high-profile deal lasting until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
The deal had been agreed earlier in the month as confirmed by Enyimba’s Sports Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme. However, the veteran has just joined the team and he has resumed training as he gears up for an exciting return to the league where he began his professional career.
The official confirmation was announced on Enyimba FC’s official X page: “We are delighted to officially announce the addition of former Super Eagles Striker, Brown Ideye to our fold. We are expectant of the experience & professionalism he will add to our game/quest in our remaining games, this season especially under the New Gaffer,” the statement read.
The new signing will play under Stanley Eguma who was also recently unveiled as the new coach of Enyimba following the decision to sack former head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju.
The two new additions will come as a timely motivation for the People’s Elephants who are currently on a nine-game winless run in all competitions and sit 11th on the NPFL table while being bottom of their CAF confederations cup group.
Brown Ideye’s move can also help in alleviating the attacking issues that Enyimba has struggled with in recent months as only Sunshine Stars (13) and Katsina United (13) have scored less goals than the nine-time NPFL champions this season.
Enyimba will host Bendel Insurance in their next NPFL game on Tuesday, December 31 as they hope to end their winless run and begin the Stanley Eguma era in style.
