D’Tigress Ezinne Kalu realized her lifelong dream of playing in the WNBA on Thursday. She made a significant contribution to the Atlanta Dream’s 78-67 victory over the New York Liberty at the Barclays Center, helping secure the Dream’s spot in the 2024 playoffs.

Kalu will be looking to continue with the team when they take one first-seed Liberty in round 1 of the playoffs on September 22, and hopefully extend her contract.

Kalu’s journey to the WNBA has been fueled by her impressive international career. As a key member of Nigeria’s national team, she has won three Afrobasket titles and led the country to become the first African nation to reach the knockout stage of the FIBA Women’s World Cup in 2018.

Additionally, she has represented Nigeria at two Olympics, helping them become the first African team to advance to the knockout stages of the basketball event. Kalu’s exceptional performance at the Olympics earned her a spot on the All-Olympics Second Team.
