Eric Chelle has put an end to speculation surrounding his potential delay in joining the Super Eagles, confirming his departure from MC Oran following their 1-0 win over USM Setif in the Algerian Cup.
Following Chelle’s appointment as Super Eagles manager, MC Oran asserted that he was still contractually bound to the club and sought compensation from the NFF, citing that his appointment was announced without their consent.
However, at the post-match conference, Chelle expressed his well-wishes to MC Oran, revealing that club officials had attempted to persuade him to remain, but he couldn’t resist the “once in a lifetime” opportunity to manage the Super Eagles.
”I thank the Hamraoua fans, the inhabitants of Oran and all Algerians for their welcome and their support. The MCO will always have a special place in my heart,” Chelle said in his press conference.
“This is my last meeting with you and it marks the end of my adventure here. From Monday, I will be in Nigeria to start a new chapter. The MCO officials insisted that I continue, but one cannot refuse to lead the one of the best teams in Africa and the world,” he added.
According to reports, Chelle is expected to arrive in Nigeria by Monday morning at the latest, and will immediately begin his duties as Super Eagles manager.
Chelle’s immediate task as the new Super Eagles head coach will be to lead the team to success in the African Nations Championship, which kicks off on February 1.
The tournament is a great opportunity for Chelle to make a strong impression and get the team off to a winning start. As the Super Eagles B team prepares to take on the best of African football, Chelle will be looking to instill his tactics and philosophy, and get the team firing on all cylinders.
With the tournament just around the corner, the pressure is on, but Chelle will be determined to make a positive impact and bring glory to Nigerian football.
