Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis marked his highly anticipated Blackburn debut with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, as the Championship side bowed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round.

The crucial fixture was Emmanuel Dennis’ first competitive game of the season, having recently joined on loan from Nottingham Forest, where he struggled to break into the starting lineup due to Nuno Espírito Santo’s preference for Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi as striking options.

The match began on a physical note, as referee Lewis Smith handed out three yellow cards within the opening 25 minutes, cautioning John Buckley, Santiago Bueno, and Augustus Kargbo for reckless challenges and poor decisions.

In a sudden turn of events, Wolves swiftly turned the tide, scoring twice in two minutes as Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha found the net with brilliant finishes, leaving Blackburn stunned and the visitors in complete control at the break.

Blackburn improved in the second half, searching for a goal to reignite their hopes, but ultimately, they struggled to craft scoring opportunities for their forwards. Emmanuel Dennis’s debut came to an end in the 66th minute, as he was replaced by Andreas Weimann as part of a double substitution.

Wolves withstood a late surge to claim the win and advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup, while Blackburn’s exit means they now have to focus on their Championship campaign, where finishing in the playoff spot remains their target.

Riding a two-game winning streak, Wolves will now set their sights on the Premier League where they will hope for a major upset against league-leaders Liverpool in their next match. Meanwhile, Blackburn, reeling from five losses in six games, face a crucial showdown with West Brom, who are just two points ahead of them in the Championship, in a desperate bid to claim all three points.
