Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens made history on Monday morning by securing their first-ever win in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, defeating New Zealand at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Sarawak.
The Nigerian Under-19 Women’s team edged out their New Zealand counterparts by a thrilling 2-run margin in a low-scoring, nail-biting encounter.
The match, shortened to 13 overs due to a wet outfield, saw Nigeria successfully defend a modest 66-run target against the Kiwis.
Captain Lucky Piety stole the show with an all-round performance, scoring a crucial 18 runs off 22 balls and claiming 1 wicket for just 8 runs in 3 overs, leaving the fans on the edge of their seats.

Captain Lucky Piety also etched her name in the history books by hitting the first-ever SIX for a Nigerian women’s team in an ICC World Cup, a remarkable achievement that will be remembered for years to come.
The Junior Female Yellow Greens will face their next challenge against South Africa on January 22, driven by their determination to make Nigeria proud and advance to the semifinals, a goal reinforced by NCF President Uyi Akpata.
