Nigeria ‘s Junior Female Yellow Greens concluded their Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a thrilling win over Ireland, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot.
The Junior Female Yellow Greens finished third in the Super Six Group B standings with five points, just one point behind England, who advanced to the semi-finals.
The win against Ireland was the team’s second in the tournament after a historic victory against New Zealand at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Sarawak.
Nigeria recovered from a slow start to post a challenging total of 94 against Ireland. After losing key batter Victory Igbinedion early, Christabel Chukwuonye led the team’s rebuild with 25 runs, supported by Omosigho Eguakun and the rest of her teammates.
Ireland’s Kia McCartney impressed with the ball, taking 2/13 from four overs. However, her team’s chase got off to a rocky start, losing a wicket in the first over.
Despite a solid partnership between Freya Sargent and Rebecca Lowe, Ireland struggled to build momentum due to regular wickets. Nigeria maintained control, although Ireland’s Millie Spence and Kia McCartney offered some late resistance.
Nigeria ultimately secured a narrow 6-run victory, bowling out Ireland for 88. Lilian Ude starred with 3/11, while Peace Usen and Anointed Akhigbe took two wickets each. Ude’s all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

The win secured third place in Super Six Group 2 for Nigeria, while Ireland’s defeat left them at the bottom of the group, unable to surpass New Zealand.
Nigeria’s Under-19 Women’s team have also earned an automatic qualification spot for the 2027 World Cup, thanks to their outstanding performance in the tournament.
