Rivers Angels forward, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu has been nominated by CAF for the Women’s Young Player of the Year award alongside FC Masar’s Habiba Sabry and Asfar’s Doha El Madani ahead of the 2024 CAF Awards coming up in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday, 16 December.

Chiamaka was one of the stars of the FIFA U20 Women’s world cup despite the early exit of the Falconets. The young attacker is tipped to take the footballing world by storm due to the technique, movement, finishing and electric pace she displayed during the tournament.

She recorded two goals and one assist as she led Nigeria to the round of 16. However, they crashed out to Japan after a 2-1 loss in the second round.

“Progressively you will see more of Chiamaka and more of what she is made of. She already has instincts in front of goal and an ability to take defenders on. What we are looking to add is an ability to provide assists and make the right passes and runs, and she is going to get there,” the U20 Women’s coach, Christopher Danjuma confidently declared when questioned on the young prodigy.

The 19-year-old was also named among the top 30 candidates for the 2024 International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s World Best Youth Player award earlier this year.
