Premier league club Brentford is on the verge of completing the transfer of Nigerian-eligible defender Michael Kayode from Italian club Fiorentina in the January transfer window.
Following his impressive displays for Fiorentina, the 20-year-old full-back has attracted interest from several clubs, including Premier League side Brighton. However, as it stands, Brentford is in pole position to secure his signature, unless another team makes a late bid.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his X page that Michael Kayode’s move to Brentford is imminent: “Brentford are closing in on Michael Kayode deal with Fiorentina. Negotiations at final stages after player’s green light, key details being clarified in club to club talks,” he revealed.
After a breakout season with Fiorentina, Michael Kayode has seen his playing time dwindle this season, making sporadic Serie A appearances and mostly being relegated to Conference League matches.
Michael Kayode’s immense potential remains evident, as evidenced by his Italian Golden Boy award, which honored him as the best young player in Serie A, despite his restricted playing time this season.

The move to Brentford is expected to revitalize Michael Kayode’s career, providing him with the opportunity for regular playing time at the highest level.
On the other hand, Brentford will also be counting on Michael Kayode’s arrival to bolster their defense, which has been a weakness this season, having conceded 39 goals, the sixth-worst tally in the league, despite boasting the sixth-best attack with 40 goals.
