Nigerian-eligible defender Michael Kayode wins Italian Golden Boy award

Michael Kayode, a defender eligible to represent Nigeria, has been named the 2024 Italian Golden Boy. This prestigious award recognizes the best young Italian talent of the year.

Kayode enjoyed a stellar season with Fiorentina in 2023-24, making 37 appearances across all competitions. He was also a regular for the Italy U-23 team.

Despite limited playing time this season, Kayode remains one of Italy’s most promising young players.

The 2024 Golden Boy Awards were announced on November 27th. Barcelona’s Yamine Lamal won the main Golden Boy award for the best young player under 21, while Juventus and Turkey’s Kenan Yıldız was voted the fans’ choice.

While Kayode has expressed his desire to play for Italy, Nigerian football fans are hopeful that he may reconsider and choose to represent the Super Eagles in the future.
