Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare says he is thrilled to be part of Genk’s history-making team with nine consecutive home victories, also crediting patience as key to their 2-0 victory over rivals Anderlecht, Bold SportsNG reports.
Arokodare contributed a goal and an assist to the win, but despite his early strike, Genk had to wait until the 72nd minute for 17-year-old Konstantinos Karetsas to seal the victory.
This win not only extended Genk’s league lead to four points after Club Brugge drew with Union Saint-Gilloise, but it also saw them achieve a new club record: nine consecutive home victories.
Arokodare, who delivered a Man of the Match performance, expressed his pride in being part of this historic moment, emphasizing the importance of patience in overcoming Anderlecht.
“Today, we made history, and I’m incredibly proud of the team and the unwavering support of our fans,” Arokodare told the club’s website. “Their energy fueled our performance. These moments are crucial for our club’s growth. By remaining patient and controlling the game, we asserted our dominance from the outset, which is reflected in the result.”
He also shared his joy over scoring and assisting, acknowledging that he could have capitalized on more opportunities. “I’m delighted with my goal and assist, though I must admit I could have been more clinical (laughs). Ultimately, it’s about the team’s victory.”
Arokodare has enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 21 games across all competitions for Genk.
