Nigerian attacker, Toluwalase Arokodare scored and also recorded an assist as Genk secured all three points against Anderlecht in a keenly contested affair at the Cegeka Arena on Sunday.
Genk coach, Thorsten Fink made four changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Club Brugge as Carlos Cuesta, Ibrahima Bangoura, Bonsu Baah and Konstantinos Karetsas were introduced to replace Mujaid Sadick, Nikolas Sattlberger, Noah Adedeji-Sternberg and Patrik Hrosovsky.
Toluwalase Arokodare atoned for his penalty miss in the last match as he opened the scoring in the 29th minute following a brilliant cross by Zakaria El Ouahdi. The in-form striker then gave an assist to 17-year-old Konstantinos Karetsas for his first professional goal since breaking out of Genk’s academy.
Arokodare’s goal was his third in his last five matches and his 11th in the Belgian Pro League this season. He has also recorded four assists in the league, signifying his impact as both a finisher and a creative attacker.
With the win, Genk are now four points clear of second-placed Club Brugge who have a game in-hand. They have recorded 41 points in 19 games and they are well on course to finish in the Championship playoff spots.
The league leaders will travel to Royal Antwerp next as they seek to end the year on a high note.
