Nigerian International and Sevilla’s new signing, Akor Adams, has suffered a tendon injury that will keep him out of their upcoming La Liga game against Barcelona on Sunday.

Although the extent of the injury has not been confirmed, it is a setback for Akor Adams, who had just begun his long-term commitment to Sevilla, having signed a contract until 2029 after making the switch from Montpellier HSC.

Asides from Akor Adams, the club also confirmed that Belgian midfielder Sambi Lokonga, picked up a muscle injury during Thursday’s training session at the Ciudad Deportiva.

The club statement released on Sevilla’s official website read, “The club can confirm that both Sambi Lokonga and Akor Adams were injured during Thursday’s training session at the Ciudad Deportiva after suffering muscle injuries. The Belgian midfielder has a tendon injury in his hamstring, while the Nigerian forward has a tendon injury in his thigh muscle.”

Sevilla will be deeply frustrated by the injuries, but Akor Adams’ setback is particularly disappointing, coming just after he made his debut for the club in the 0-0 draw against Getafe.

Despite the injury setbacks, Sevilla remain focused on extending their four-match unbeaten streak in La Liga, having accumulated three draws and one victory in their last four outings.

However, Sevilla face a daunting challenge as they take on a Barcelona team riding a 10-match unbeaten streak, throughout which they have been in scintillating form, netting an impressive 37 goals during the unbeaten run in all competitions.

The pivotal encounter will be held at Sevilla’s home stadium, Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, where Barcelona have remained unbeaten since suffering a 2-0 defeat in the Copa Del Rey in 2021.
