Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa is determined to seek justice for ex-NPFL star Abubakar Lawal, who died under unclear circumstances in Entebbe road, Kampala, on Monday, February 24.
Initial reports suggested that Abubakar Lawal died in a motorcycle accident while en route to a training session. However, new reports indicate that he fell from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade on the morning of February 24, 2025.
The conflicting reports caught Ahmed Musa’s attention, prompting him to call for an investigation by the Nigerian Government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in order to decipher the truth.
Musa expressed his bewilderment with the situation on his official X handle: “It is saddened to receive the news of Abubakar Lawal. The news was shocking, which prompted me to ask further questions and clarification. However, we discovered contrary information about his demise; the first one claimed it was an accident, and the second report claimed he fell from a balcony.”

“The contradicting reports suggest something suspicious about his demise, and I have been in contact with the Nigerian authority and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), calling their attention to this fatal case in Uganda,” he added.
The Kano Pillars winger appealed for a thorough investigation, saying: “I am appealing to the Nigerian Government and the NFF to investigate the incident and work with the Ugandan government to get justice for Lawal. Lawal’s soul deserves a thorough investigation, and justice must be served if anyone is found guilty. May Allah rest his soul Amen”
In response to Musa’s statement, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, led by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, have demanded a full autopsy and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Abubakar Lawal’s death.
Dabiri-Erewa in a statement released after the incident stated, “This is pathetic and appears suspicious. We demand a thorough investigation. No cover-up at all. This is so sad!”
“The Nigerian government will ensure and demand a thorough and transparent investigation. May his soul Rest in Peace, and God give the family the fortitude to bear this loss,” she added.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are retrieving CCTV footage and conducting thorough interrogations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
