William Troost-Ekong: Super Eagles will be ready for AFCON

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has shared his thoughts on the recent AFCON draw, expressing confidence that the team will be well-prepared to compete for the title in Morocco.

The draw which took place on Monday at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat saw Nigeria placed in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania.

Reacting to the draw, Troost-Ekong admitted that Nigeria’s Group C opponents should be respected, but expressed confidence that the team’s experience will enable them rise to the challenge.

“It’s very exciting to see the new group. Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania, three teams that need to be respected. I think we have the experience now to know how to handle these situations,” the captain confidently declared.

Troost-Ekong cautioned that there will be no easy games, but simultaneously expressed his conviction that the team possesses the talent and capability to emerge victorious and claim the trophy in Morocco.

“There’s no such thing as an easy game in Africa, I stand by that. But I believe that we have everything in our team to make sure we come out of this group and this time, go all the way,” he said.

“We learnt so much last year from the AFCON in Abidjan but this time we will be more ready and we will be working hard throughout the year to make sure everyone is fit and ready to get going under the new coach,” Troost-Ekong added.

Trost-Ekong concluded his reaction on a high note, expressing his excitement and optimism about the upcoming AFCAON tournament.”It’s an exciting year ahead and I’m very happy with the AFCON draw.”

Ahead of the tournament, it has been reported that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will play its group stage matches in the City of Fez, North East of Morocco. The team will now begin preparations for the continental showpiece, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.
