Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the continent’s most decorated women’s football team, have secured a smooth passage to the second and final round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.
The draw, conducted at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo on Thursday, granted the Falcons a well-deserved bye in the initial round.
This strategic advantage places the Super Falcons among the six top-ranked African nations that have directly advanced to the final qualifying stage. The other teams enjoying this privilege include South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast.
The second and final round of the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers is slated for October 2025. In this decisive phase, Nigeria will lock horns with either Benin or Sierra Leone. The winner of this encounter will secure a coveted spot in the 2026 WAFCON, which Morocco will host for the third consecutive time.
While the specific dates for the 2026 tournament are yet to be confirmed, the first qualifying round is scheduled to commence in February 2025. This initial stage will involve 38 nations vying for a place in the final round.
