Southampton manager, Russell Martin, has confirmed that the club remains open to integrating Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, into the squad. Despite the player’s involvement in transfer rumors, Martin insists that the door is not closed on Onuachu’s future at St. Mary’s.

The Saints earned their first win of the season beating Everton 6-5 on penalties to advance to the fourth round of the competition after the game had ended 1-1 during regulation time.

Onuachu and German defender Armel Bella-Kotchap have both been absent from Southampton’s Premier League matches this season due to their uncertain futures. Onuachu, who spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor, has struggled to secure a permanent move to the Turkish club.

Despite his impressive form in Belgium during his time at Genk, Onuachu failed to make a significant impact during his brief stint at Southampton last season. However, he rediscovered his scoring touch in Turkey, netting 17 goals in 25 appearances for Trabzonspor.

Now back at Southampton, Onuachu is awaiting a transfer move. While his future remains uncertain, Martin has confirmed that he remains a part of the club’s plans.

“I have to balance the short, medium and long-term plans for the club and who fits the style of play the best. Tonight it’s these guys – on Saturday [against Ipswich] it will be someone different. The door isn’t shut for anyone. I have to make decisions based off what I think is best for the team and club.

“I like them both. They train hard but I was really honest with them before the transfer window closed and I’ve been honest with them since it closed.”
