Spanish club Sevilla is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Montpellier to sign Nigerian forward Akor Adams in the January transfer window.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news on his official X page, talks between the two clubs have been ongoing and are now nearing their final stages, with a permanent deal seemingly imminent.
”Deal set to happen for €5.5m transfer fee from Montpellier, despite links with other clubs he’s going to Sevilla as revealed. Here we go, soon,” Fabrizio disclosed
Akor Adams had a remarkable debut season with Montpellier after joining the French club from Lillestrøm. However, he has struggled to replicate that form this season, scoring only three goals and providing a single assist.
This downturn in form has raised questions about his future at Montpellier, and a move to Sevilla could provide him with a fresh start and a new environment to revive his career.

Sevilla, meanwhile, has endured a disappointing season, sitting 11th in La Liga with 26 points from 20 matches, a mere seven points above the relegation zone. Their struggles were further compounded by a humiliating 4-1 defeat to La Liga 2 side Almeria in the Copa Del Rey.
As such, the potential signing of Akor Adams is seen as a beneficial deal for both parties, as Sevilla seeks to bolster its attacking options and Adams looks to revitalize his career.
The impending arrival of Akor Adams at Sevilla has significant implications for another Nigerian international, Kelechi Iheanacho. Iheanacho has not featured for Sevilla in over a month, and the signing of Adams could further limit his playing opportunities.
As a result, Iheanacho will likely be eager to secure a move away from Sevilla, potentially paving the way to establish himself as a key player for another club in Spain or elsewhere in Europe.
