Getafe midfielder Chrisantus Uche is reportedly set to receive his first call-up to the Nigerian national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe according to Sports Journalist Ojora Babatunde.
Uche’s impressive performances for Getafe this season, particularly in recent weeks, have caught the attention of Nigerians. The youngster has been a consistent presence for Getafe, playing in every La Liga game and starting 21 of 24 matches.
Uche has also received recognition for his contributions to Getafe’s improved form as he was included in the WhoScored La Liga team of the week for Gameweek 21 and team of the month for January.
With three goals and two assists, Uche has demonstrated his ability to contribute to his team’s attacking efforts. His exceptional dribbling skills, movement, and relentless work rate off the ball have made him a valuable asset to Getafe.

If invited, it will be interesting to see whether Uche is deployed as a midfielder or striker. With established players like Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, coupled with the rise of in-form Tolu Arokodare who has scored 15 league goals in the Belgian Pro League, Uche may face stiff competition for a striking role.
However, Uche may have a better chance of featuring as a midfielder, given the current dissatisfaction with the Super Eagles’ midfield among supporters. As the World Cup qualifier draws closer, Uche and other in-form players will be hoping to receive their first call-up and contribute to Nigeria’s quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
