Super Eagles and Red Star Belgrade forward, Peter Olayinka, has undergone successful surgery on his Achilles tendon on Tuesday in Finland, according to the club. The 28-year-old is currently recovering in the hospital.
The Nigerian international sustained the injury during Red Star’s 5-1 defeat to AS Monaco on October 22nd in a UEFA Champions League encounter. While the surgery was a success, the club has not determined a specific return date for Olayinka.

“Peter Olanjinka was successfully operated on in Finland by a famous doctor, after an Achilles tendon injury due to a blow he received during a match in Monaco,” the club stated in a press release.
“Everything went well and we are waiting for the post-operative period to pass in order to estimate the return time of Zvezda’s football player. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the field!”
Olayinka’s absence will undoubtedly be a significant loss for Red Star. This season, he has made valuable contributions to the team, scoring two goals and providing two assists in six league matches.
According to Bold Sports’ research, the injury is expected to sideline Olayinka for six to nine months. This unfortunate development means he will likely miss the entire season, with a potential return date between May and July.
Olayinka has received an outpouring of support from his Super Eagles teammates, including Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Frank Onyeka, as well as former internationals Obafemi Martins, Odion Ighalo, and John Ogu.
