Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has received recognition for his outstanding performance in the Europa League as he has been named the second-best player in the league phase by WhoScored.
Osimhen’s impressive form continued on Thursday as he scored his fifth Europa League goal. Unfortunately, Galatasaray fell short of securing automatic qualification as they lost 2-1 to Ajax, finishing 14th with 13 points.
Despite Galatasaray’s failure to advance directly to the round of 16, Osimhen’s individual performance has been remarkable. He is currently tied for third place in the Europa League’s top scorers list, trailing only Ayoub El Kaabi (7 goals) and Barnabas Varga (6 goals).
Bertrand Traore of Ajax was awarded the top spot as the best player in the league phase, while Lyon’s Rayan Cherki secured third place after an impressive campaign that saw Lyon finish sixth and qualify automatically.
The rest of the top 10 included top players such as Yunus Akgun (Galatasaray), Barnabas Varga (Ferencvaros), Dries Mertens (Galatasaray), Dario Osorio (Midtjylland), Hamza Igamane (Rangers), Patrick Berg (Bodø/Glimt), and Pedro (Lazio).
With Galatasaray advancing to the playoffs, the team will now await the draws on Friday to determine their next opponent, which will be either AZ Alkmaar or Midtjylland.
