Victor Osimhen made a stunning return to competitive football by scoring a sensational overhead kick that is sure to be remembered as the Goal of the Week in the Turkish Super Lig. His goal capped off Galatasaray’s commanding 3-0 away victory over Antalyaspor.

After being sidelined with a muscle injury that saw him miss two games for his club and Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya, Osimhen made a significant impact in just 12 minutes on the pitch.

Argentine striker Mauro Icardi preferred over Osimhen and Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi, justified his starting role by netting twice—in the 10th and 52nd minutes—securing a comfortable 2-0 lead for Galatasaray.

Osimhen, however, added the perfect finishing touch with a spectacular overhead kick in the 92nd minute, sealing the 3-0 victory. The Nigerian international had replaced Icardi in the 78th minute, and this goal marked his third for Galatasaray since joining the Turkish side on loan from Napoli late in the summer.

After the match, Osimhen expressed his delight with the goal and dedicated it to Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk, who was celebrating his birthday.

“The goal was an incredible goal. We got 3 points from here, I am very happy about that,” Osimhen said in a post-match interview. “I want to dedicate this goal to our coach, today is his birthday.

“When we look at the first half, we were not that good, we took the lead thanks to the goals scored by Mauro and we were able to play much better in the second half. We had a 4-day holiday and as a result, we rested well, now we will continue in the same way.

“The first goal was normal, but it was not normal for the second goal not to count. These things are part of football. What is important here is for us to get three points as a team and to progress well.”

Osimhen also believes the quality of the goal could see it nominated for the Puskas Award. “Of course it could be. It was an incredible goal. It’s a classy goal, why not, it could be.”
