Greek giants Olympiacos have officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian international Bruno Onyemaechi from Portuguese outfit Boavista.

According to reports from Greece, Onyemaechi has committed to a four-year contract with the Europa Conference League champions, with Olympiacos parting with €2.5 million to secure his services.

Onyemaechi’s signing is viewed as a significant coup for Olympiacos, who fended off interest from several European clubs to land the highly sought-after full-back.

With Olympiacos currently sitting pretty at the top of the Super League 1 table and on course to qualify for the Europa League round of 16, Onyemaechi’s arrival is expected to bolster the team’s defensive ranks in achieving their targets.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international joins Olympiacos from Boavista, where he made 77 appearances, scoring five goals and providing three assists during his stint with the Portuguese club.

This season, Onyemaechi has continued his impressive form, contributing three goals and one assist in 18 matches for Boavista, highlighting his quality defensively and going forward.

Having put pen to paper on his contract, Onyemaechi may be in line to make his Olympiacos debut as early as Thursday when the Greek side takes on Qarabag FK in the Europa League.

Speaking after the move, Onyemaechi expressed his excitement with the deal, indicating how eager he is to play in front of the fans: ”First of all I’m very happy to be here. I remember when I heard the first proposal, I sent to my family and they were all excited. So now I’m looking forward to it and I hope to see the supporters in the stadium very soon,” he said.

”I love the possibility to be able to play in Europe and this is one of the things that attracted me here. I’m really happy to be here and I’m looking forward to it,” he added.

Onyemaechi also spoke on what Olympiacos fans should expect during his time at the club: ”I am a fast player. When the team has the ball, I’m ready to go to help the team in attack and also run back to defend. I’ll bring the best of me here. You will enjoy me and I’ll enjoy you too,” he confidently declared.
