Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has faced a setback after suffering a wrist injury that will require immediate surgical attention.
While the severity of the injury has not been officially revealed, the club confirmed in a statement on their website that the shot-stopper will undergo surgery: “Maduka Okoye has torn the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist following a trauma. He will have surgery to repair the ligament in the next few days,” the club announced.
The injury is a crushing blow to Udinese, who have had to rely on their trusted Goalkeeper’s exceptional skills and leadership. Okoye has been in goal in all 14 Seria A matches this season, conceding 21 goals and keeping three cleansheets while recording an impressive 66.7% save percentage. He also featured recently in Nigeria’s final AFCON qualification fixture against Rwanda for his first game in three years.
In his stead, Udinese will have to utilize 22-year-old Romanian Razvan Sava, who made his debut during the Coppa Italia round of 32 fixture against Salernitana.
Despite the setback, The 25-year-old who is no newcomer to overcoming adversity is expected to remain resolute and determined to return to the pitch as soon as possible and help his team achieve their objectives.
