Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named among the final five nominees for both the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year awards.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the shortlist ahead of the awards ceremony set for December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Nnadozie, who plays for Paris FC, is competing for the prestigious Player of the Year title alongside Malawi’s Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, Morocco’s Sanaâ Mssoudy, and Zambia’s Barbra Banda. Her impressive performances between January and October this year also earned her a spot on the Goalkeeper of the Year shortlist.
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade was among the 10 players nominated for the continent’s best player award, but failed to make the final five cut, same as Edo Queens goalkeeper, Monle Oyono, who didn’t make the final five shortlist for the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
The awards will also recognise other outstanding Nigerian talents, with the country represented in all but one award category.
Chiamaka Okwuchukwu of Rivers Angels is nominated for the Young Player of the Year, while Chris Danjuma, coach of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, is a contender for Coach of the Year. Additionally, the Super Falcons are finalists for Women’s National Team of the Year, reflecting their strong showings on the continental stage.
The winners will be decided through votes from the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, national team coaches and captains, and clubs participating in CAF competitions.
Nnadozie aims to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Asisat Oshoala, who won the Women’s Player of the Year award last year. Compatriot Ademola Lookman is also favourite to win the Men’s Player of the Year award.
