Nigeria’s U-17 girls, the Flamingos, delivered a dominant display, thrashing Niger Republic 9-0 in their second match at the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup in Ghana on Thursday.

The Flamingos started brightly as Aishat Animashaun opened the scoring in the 5th minute, finishing off a well-placed cross from Mary Mamudu. FIFA U17 World Cup star Shakirat Moshood doubled the lead with a stunning 35-yard screamer in the 17th minute, leaving Nigerien goalkeeper Ndiaye Fatai Basiru helpless.

Moshood struck again six minutes later, assisted by Animashaun, before Janet Akekoromowei made it 4-0 in the 33rd minute with a close-range effort. Akekoromowei quickly added her second in the 42nd minute, and moments later, powered in a header to complete her hat-trick.

Moshood wrapped up the first half with her own hat-trick in the 45th minute, taking the score to 7-0 at halftime.

The relentless Moshood netted her fourth goal just before the hour mark, driving solo past the Nigerien defense to make it 8-0. With 11 minutes left, Peace Effiong joined the party, firing a long-range shot that sealed Nigeria’s emphatic 9-0 victory.

The Flamingos will face Cote d’Ivoire next on Monday as they look to maintain their perfect start in the tournament.
