Premier League champions Manchester City have identified in-form Super Eagles right-back Ola Aina as a potential long-term replacement for aging veteran Kyle Walker, according to The Sun UK.
Aina has been a standout performer in the Premier League this season, playing a crucial role in Nottingham Forest’s impressive campaign that currently sees them sitting second in the league. His consistency is also displayed by the full 90 minutes played in their recent 2-0 victory over Everton on Sunday.
The Nigeria international’s blend of strength, pace, and athleticism has made him a formidable opponent for opposing wingers. His contract is set to expire in June 2025, but despite Forest’s efforts to tie him down to a longer contract, City are exploring the possibility of acquiring the defender from Forest.
Aina joined Forest on a free transfer last summer after his contract with Italian side Torino expired. He subsequently signed a one-year extension with the club.
While a move to City may not be his immediate priority, the allure of playing for one of Europe’s elite clubs could be a compelling factor for the 28-year-old if City maintain their interest.
Aina’s versatility, capable of playing on both flanks of the defense, is another attractive quality for City manager Pep Guardiola. At 34, Walker’s long-term future remains uncertain, leaving City in need of a suitable successor.
Aina has been a key figure for Forest this season, starting all 19 games and contributing two goals while helping the team achieve eight clean sheets. He is widely regarded as one of the most underrated defenders in the Premier League.
