Ligue 1 side, Lille has secured a loan agreement with Ajax for the services of Chuba Akpom, with the option to make the transfer permanent.

The 29-year-old Nigerian striker has been granted permission to undergo a medical examination in France, paving the way for the temporary switch to be completed before the January transfer window closes.

Despite attracting interest from numerous clubs across the Premier League, Championship, and Europe, Akpom is poised to join the French outfit according to football correspondent, David Ornstein.

Akpom’s addition will significantly bolster Lille’s attacking lineup for the second half of the season, as Bruno Genesio’s side seek to make strides in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

Having begun his professional career at Arsenal, Akpom gained valuable experience through various loan spells before making permanent moves to PAOK Thessaloniki in 2018 and then Middlesbrough in 2020.

Ajax recruited Akpom in August 2023, and he has since made 68 appearances across all competitions, scoring 23 goals.

The loan move presents an exciting opportunity for Akpom to experience a new league and environment, while also enhancing his chances of regular first-team football. As Lille seeks to strengthen its position in Ligue 1 and make a push in the Champions League, Akpom’s arrival could prove to be a pivotal moment in their season.
