Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi was influential once again for Fulham as they secured a 1-1 draw in the London Derby against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, December 1.

Deployed in the right wing where he has been playing in recent weeks, Alex Iwobi started alongside fellow Hale End Academy graduates, Emile Smith Rowe, and Reiss Nelson while Mexican forward, Raul Jimenez led the attack.

The game was quiet for most of the first half as both teams were wary of each other’s attacking threat. However, riding on the wave of his recent form, Iwobi was involved in the 41st minute as a beautiful combination play between Smith Rowe, Jimenez, and Nelson found its way to the Nigerian midfielder whose shot unluckily hit the frame of the goal.

Prior to half time, James Maddison placed a free kick to the left side of the post but was also denied by the woodwork.

9 minutes into the second half, Timo Werner’s beautifully floated cross found Brennan Johnson on the far post and the Welsh international converted expertly to give Tottenham the lead. However, in the 67th minute, Fulham equalized as Iwobi got the ball in the box and calmly played a cutback to Tom Cairney who fired in a powerful shot to make the score line 1-1.

The assist means Iwobi now has two goals and two assists in his last five matches for the Cottagers, taking his total tally for the season to three goals and three assists in 13 premier league matches, the most goal contributions among Fulham players.

With the draw, Fulham are now 10th on the table with 19 points in 13 matches. They host Brighton in their next match on Thursday, December 5 as they seek to get back to winning ways.
