Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has credited Fulham’s oneness and chemistry for his impressive form this season.
The Nigerian international has been a standout performer for Marco Silva’s side, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 19 Premier League matches. His contributions have cemented his place as a key figure in Fulham’s high-flying setup.
Fulham are enjoying a remarkable first half of the season under Silva, sitting eighth on the EPL table and eyeing a potential European spot.
Speaking with BBC Sport Africa, Iwobi, 28, attributed the team’s togetherness to his strong performances.
“We’re really fighting for each other,” he said. “You can see it on the pitch, but off the pitch, what the cameras don’t catch is that we’re really one big brotherhood. It’s a nice environment, the chemistry is really good, and I feel like that’s helping us get the results we need.”
Iwobi praised Silva for creating a conducive atmosphere that allows him to thrive in multiple positions.
“I feel like I’m just expressing myself a bit more,” the former Arsenal academy graduate said. “The manager gives me that license and freedom to get into more goalscoring opportunities. Even if I make a mistake, he says: ‘Alex, go again.’”
The midfielder also credited his teammates for their support.
“Having that confidence from him and my teammates backing me makes you feel almost unstoppable. You’re willing to try and do anything on the pitch.”
Fulham’s best-ever EPL finish was 10th place in the 2011/12 season, and Iwobi remains optimistic about the team’s chances of securing a European spot this season.
“We have the players, and I haven’t played in Europe in a long time, so it’s a dream I want to achieve again,” he said. “We’re not scared of anyone. We’re confident we can compete and take three points against anyone. The sky’s the limit.”
