Itsekiri settles for African Games 100m silver

Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme reigned supreme in the men’s 100m of the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana, winning the gold medal ahead of Nigeria’s Usheoritse Itsekiri.

Eseme crossed the line to emerge champion in 10.14s ahead of Itsekiri who won silver medal in 10.23s – an upgrade from the bronze medal he won four years ago in Rabat, Morocco.

Namibia’s Gilbert Hainuca placed third in 10.29s, beating home-based sensation Consider Ekanem to fourth position in 10.42s.

In the women’s 100m, favourites Gambia’s Gina Bass lived up to expectations, claiming the gold medal in a time of 11.36s ahead of Liberia’s Maia McCoy in 11.49s to win the silver medal.

Nigeria’s Olayinka Olajide who was representing the country at a senior event for the first time won bronze medal 11.55s while her compatriot Justina Eyakpobeyan finished fifth in 11.60s.
