Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta were eliminated from the Supercoppa Italiana after a 2-0 loss to Inter in the semi-finals with a double from Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries.

Lookman, who did not start the match, was introduced in the 56th minute as Atalanta sought a way back into the game.

The deadlock was broken immediately after the restart. On a contentious corner, Yann Bisseck headed the ball down for Denzel Dumfries, who executed an acrobatic half-volley from close range to put Inter ahead in the 49th minute.

Despite Atalanta introducing their big names, including Lookman, their efforts to find an equalizer left them vulnerable. Inter doubled their lead in the 61st minute through Dumfries again. Federico Dimarco’s low cross skipped past Mehdi Taremi but reached Dumfries, who smashed a powerful strike in off the crossbar from the edge of the box.

Atalanta had their chances to respond. Carlos Augusto made a crucial block on Charles De Ketelaere’s effort, and Ederson’s follow-up was disallowed by VAR due to an offside in the buildup. Late in the game, Atalanta almost scored when Yann Sommer produced an incredible double save to deny Berat Djimsiti and Lookman’s headers from a corner, with the follow-up attempt fired over.

Inter, aiming to win the Supercoppa Italiana for a record fourth consecutive time, will face the winner of the Juventus vs. Milan semi-final in the final on January 6.
