The South West derby lived up to its billing, as Ikorodu City edged Shooting Stars 2-1 in a thrilling contest at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Sunday.

Ikorodu City’s interim head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, placed his trust in goalkeeper James Faith, while Ngenge Leonard returned to the starting lineup after recovering from injury. Adelani Shola also made a comeback, replacing Ayemwenre Rivio.

On the other side, Shooting Stars’ head coach Gbenga Ogunbote stuck with his favored 4-3-3 formation. Samuel Ayanrinde led the attack, flanked by Monday Gideon on the left and ex-Ikorodu City player Anthony Okachi on the right.

It was Okachi who drew first blood in the 14th minute, scoring his first goal of the season against his former club, much to the delight of the away fans.

Ikorodu City remained resolute, gradually growing into the game. Their persistence paid off in the 58th minute when Adelani Shola headed in the equalizer.

Ikorodu City now turn their attention to an away fixture against Niger Tornadoes, hoping to extend their winning streak. Shooting Stars will aim to recover as they prepare to host Bayelsa United.
