D’Tigers guard, Gabe Vincent said he thought he had been traded out of the Los Angeles Lakers after his phone wouldn’t stop ringing when the mega trade between the Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks involving superstars Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic took place.

In one of the most shocking trades in basketball history, the Dallas Mavericks traded their franchise player Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for future Hall of Famer Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 Lakers 1st round pick while the Lakers got Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris.

According to ESPN’s NBA insider, Shams Charania, the trade was conducted discreetly with the players involved left in the dark. LeBron James was reportedly unaware of the deal until all documents were signed by team management.

“The Mavericks approached the Lakers recently and offered Luka Doncic, sources tell ESPN. Lakers brass met and believed the 25-year-old Doncic has the ability to be the face of their franchise for the next decade while giving Anthony Davis a win-now move in Dallas,” Shanaria had tweeted.

Several NBA players such as Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, and others have reacted to the news of the trade, and when Lakers guard Gabe Vincent was asked where he was when the news broke and what he felt, he revealed that at first when he started getting calls, he thought he had been traded.

“I was with my girl at a seven-eleven getting water and my phone was going crazy and she was like ‘please answer the phone’,” Vincent said in their post-match interview after their win against the LA Clippers

“A friend of mine called and said ‘Is everything good? Have you seen the news?’ At that time I thought I had been traded.

“I called my agent, asked what’s going on and he said ‘I think someone got hacked’ and I was like I’ll call you back. I went into our team group chat and everyone was sending messages and from there, things moved really fast,” the D’Tigers captain to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo said.

Vincent says it is sad to see players who have been integral to the team leave, but he wishes them the best with their new team.

“Trades are sometimes the unfortunate part of the business. We were coming off a high win on the road. To get that news, obviously, you don’t want to see guys go, especially guys that are so vital to our team. I definitely wish them the best the organization has made the decision they think is best for the team.”
