Isreal Adesanya says he is greatly disappointed with his shocking second-round knockout loss to France’s fifth-ranked Nassourdine Imavov at UFC Fight Night Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Adesanya started the fight brightly, winning on the judges’ card, but had complained to the referee that he had been poked by his opponent at the start of the second round.

Although the referee offered the New Zealander the opportunity to rest up after the complaints, Adesanya chose to fight on and was dropped five seconds later by Imavov’s heavy right hand followed by a flurry of damaging punches.

The loss is Adesanya’s third in a row and fourth in five fights. Before the fight, the ‘Last Stylebender’ was ranked second in the middleweight division, but the loss to Imavov will see him drop lower in the rankings.

Reacting to the loss, Adesanya says he is disappointed with the outcome, especially for his fans, team and family.

“Disappointed. I hate Disappointing my fans, and my team. My team’s so proud of me because of the work I put into this. It’s just a thrilling agony,” Adesanya said after the fight.

“I don’t know what’s next, I’ll have to chill and think about things … I was going to do that anyway, but now I’m forced to, so shout out to Nassourdine for that.
