Gabe Vincent made his first start of the season for the Los Angeles Lakers in their thrilling 105-104 victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday night (early Monday morning Nigerian time).

The D’Tigers captain, who led Nigeria at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, stepped into the starting lineup due to the absences of Austin Reaves (pelvic injury), Cam Reddish (illness), and D’Angelo Russell (illness). Vincent delivered a strong performance, scoring a personal Lakers-high 10 points along with three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Vincent was notably efficient, converting 4-of-5 field goal attempts, including a perfect 2-of-2 from two-point range and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. This marked a new season-high for him with the Lakers, surpassing his previous best of nine points.

Since joining the Lakers for the 2023/24 season, the former Miami Heat guard has struggled to meet expectations due to a serious long-term injury and inconsistent offensive output. However, Lakers coach JJ Redick praised Vincent’s contributions as a crucial factor in the team’s win.

The 28-year-old will aim to build on this momentum and secure a second consecutive start when the Lakers take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.
